Review It was HOT. Very hot. Luckily we had some shade to hide in..but it was still HOT. Ask Jamin how hot it was… The crowd was big, and lots of cheering. Events were good, and it ran pretty smoothly. Chris Wiebe and Lanze dominated the competition. Prizes 1st $500 + Trophy (to keep for one year),
2nd $250,
3rd $125
$100 Per event Win
One Trophy (to keep for one year) to the top placing competitor from Altona.
Farmers Walk Review In this event we carried two 225LB implements down a 80 foot course and around a pylon. Distance was measured from where the implement was dropped.
This event was pretty hard, maybe the heat, or the implements design made it harder. The handles were smooth and seemed rather slippery. The turn around the pylon was especially tricky as they wanted to swing out. Rules The farmers walk implements are 225lbs per hand. They will be carried around an 80ft course with pylons at each end. No time limit. Once you drop the weights the distance will be measured to the part of the implement that is the shortest distance. If a competitor knocks a pylon over a 10 foot penalty will be assessed. Straps are not allowed. Implement will start one foot behind start line, when the front of the implement passes the starting line you have committed. Until that point you may put it down and regrip.
If there are more than 15 competitors, this will be used as a qualifier with only the top 15 continuing on.
Log Press Review In the log press we lifted a 165 lb steel log from two tires, to a locked position over our heads. The weight seemed pretty light, but we were going for reps in a minute and it got tiring close to the end. Rules Competitor will have one minute to press the 165lb log over head, and back to the tires as many times as possible. The competitor will indicate he is ready, timer will say, Mark, Set, Go and time will start. When one minute is up, the timer will call TIME. The log will be on top of two car tires, one at each end. The competitor needs to lock out at the top, with the log directly overhead. The ref will indicate that it is a good rep.
Tire Flip Review This was the heaviest tire I have ever tried to flip. Not sure what the weight was, but it was very tall and had a rim in it. We were going for most flips in a minute, and the best guys did 4. The grip was good, but just a hard tire to flip. Rules Competitor will try and flip the 635lb tire as many times as possible in one minute. Competitor will indicate to the timer when he is ready, timer will say, Mark, Set, Go and time will start. Timer will call TIME when one minute is up. If the tire is passed the half way point when time is called, the flip will count. Competitor must keep the tire on the road.
Crucifix Hold Review In this event we held 25 lb dumbbells out to our sides for max time. We were not allowed to bend elbows very much. As always a very hard event to judge. They watched that we kept the bottom of the weights above a bar, once we crossed it we were done. Rules Competitor will hold two 25lb dumbbells out to their sides, with arms straight. Helpers will lift the dumbbells to the correct height and hold them there. Competitor will indicate he is ready, and timer will say mark, set go. The helpers will release and time will start. Hold will be for maximum time. A bar will be placed in front of the competitor and adjusted for their height. The refs will watch for either of the weights dropping below the bar, at which point the time is up. No bending of arms or turning of wrists. Weights must be held straight up and down.
Tractor Pull Review The tractor weighed 9,200 lbs. Light you say. Try pulling it. Way harder than any semi I have tried. Every turn of the tires was work, there was hardly any momentum. And to make it even worse, there as a little hill on the road, most people got stuck there. Rules Competitor will wear a harness hooked up to a tractor. There will also be a rope to a fixed object in the front. Competitor will try and pull the tractor as quickly as possible across the 60 foot course. The harness can be used with the competitor’s weight lifting belt, or the one that is supplied. The competitor will indicate to the timer that he is ready. The timer will say mark, set, go and time will start. The event will be for fastest time, or if 60 feet is not met in one minute, then max distance. The timer will call TIME when one minute is up. There will be someone helping pull the rope away.
