Review This was the first time comp for LDB, and things went really well. Rodger had some really nice equipment made. And those vipers we lifted, (like, picked up) were very cool. Ed nearly won every event of the competition. Jason impressed everyone at his first competition, easily winning light weight class and taking 5th overall. Some of us were still hurting from Friday at the Ex, but did not seem to affect anyone that much. I have no good explanation for my performance. If you ever in the LDB area make sure you check out Rodgers gym. Very nice. Prizes Open ($1,000+One-Year Membership, $500+Six-Month Membership, $250) $100 Per Event Win

Bench Press Review The bench was used to determine starting order in the first event. Some guys did a bunch of reps. Some did not really care to much what the order was going to be for the circle of pain. Rules Bench press qualifier for reps @ 315 lb (245 lb for lightweight and 100 lb for women) Must be able to do at least one rep.
Circle of Pain Review Rodger had two brand new implements made by Pulse. They were very nice looking. We loaded each up with 8x45lb plates for 360lbs, plus the weight of the implement. The light weights used one of them and the heavies used the other. (The same weight was on both) The lift was easy, but the carry got tiring fast. Darren somehow managed to tip one of them over when he was done. Vern Cooper (The Silver Bullet) was in the stands watching, would have been interesting had he been out there. Rules Competitors will walk in a circle for distance carrying a weighted bar,550 lb (Women 250 lb), on their arms which are folded in front of them. The bar is anchored to a pivot.
Truck Pull & Push (OSN-OmniSport Nutrition) Review We started by pushing the truck up a little bit of an incline. For me, this was near impossible. Not sure what I was doing wrong. I got partway up the hill and then it rolled backwards on me. ARGHHH. After you got over the peek, it was pretty easy. A lot of guys chalked up after the truck for the farmers walks. Not sure why, it wasted a lot of time for them. The cylinders were pretty light at 220lbs, and we went only a short distance with them. Still some guys were pretty tired from the push and struggled with the walk. Rules The competitor will push a 5 ton truck weighing 15,972 lb for 50 feet (Women 30 feet). Then they will pick up a pair of 220lb farmer walks implemets and carry them for 50 feet. This event will be timed. If the competitor is unable to complete the event the distance completed will be used.
Viking Press Review The implent for the press was the same as the circle of pain, it just had a changeable handle. Nice set up, although the bar could move left to right as well as up and down, but that did not seem to matter to much. This seems harder then a bar press, because you could not really rest it on your chest, or push with your chest. Once you touched the ground you were done. Darren and Ed really shown in this one both getting over 20 reps. The light weights had a harder time, with Jason winning with 6 reps. Rules Competitors will have 1 minute to lift 250 lb (Women 100 lb) starting from their shoulders above their head for reps
Crucifix Hold (Trans-Canada Fitness in Lac du Bonnet) Review Allways a tuff event to judge, I got nailed this time. Fouled out at 30 seconds. Youch. We went on competitor at a time, holding the apparatus out to our sides. Ed put up a big 68 seconds to win this event. Rules Competitors will hold two 25 lb (Women 12 lb) weights out to the side with arms locked straight and parallel to the ground as long as possible. One warning will be given if arm position is not maintained.
Tire Flip (Race Tire in Beausejour) Review The tire was pretty light, not to tall, not to wide, with ok grip. After 12 flips you had to change sides and go back. Once again, Ed showed us how it was done. BJ and Nick both got 12 reps in the light weight class. Wonder what Al would have gotten. Rules Competitors will have 1 minute to flip a 600 lb. (Women 300 lb) tire as many times as they can.
Viper Dead Lift (Pulse Fitness in Winnipeg) Review Funny thing about the deadlift. I picked it up in the morning when we were testing no problem, no straps. But when my turn was up…it was stuck to the ground. Ryan E had the same problem….maybe because we rode in together. John and BJ in the light weights were awesome in the event. Was impressive to see them go head to head. Afterwards they both said they would not held it that long had they been with someone else. Ed an Ryan were also good to watch. Ryan S kept yelling at Ed to drop them, but he was not listening today. Rules Competitors will face each other, lifting the back end of Dodge Vipers, vehicle weight 3456 lbs. dead lift weight approx. 600 lbs. (Women 250 lb) Lifters will compete against the clock and time will only count as long as tires are off the ground. Time will start when competitor is in full upright position. Lifting straps are allowed.
