Review Another great weekend in Dauphin. Was really impressed with how much some of they guys hard improved. Scott was so fast in the wheel and link events. Nick put on a ton of weight, and really improved over last year. John Crocker was amazing almost making the 280 log. The medley was really cool. Lots of guys struggled with it. The new pulse Hercules hold looked impressive, and once the kinks are worked out they will be really good. A big thanks to Crawford, Barry, Brian, and all the helpers. Farmers Walk & Chain (Sydor Farm Equipment) Review We carried the 250 lb farmer’s walks for 80 feet, and then dragged the chain back. The farmer’s walks were very high. Almost not lift for the shortest guys. The chain dragged very easily on the cement surface. Darren won this one by over 2 seconds, which is a lot when you do it in 32 seconds. Scott surprised me with his 2nd place in this one, and it was the first of many surprises from him. I found both the farmer walk and the drag pretty easy. But my legs were super pumped when the drag was done. Rules Farmer Walk 250lbs. x 80 feet then drag 500lb chain back.
Distance may be 100' depending on space.
Conans Wheel (Forman Ford) Review The Conan’s wheel was loaded to 550 lbs in plates. This was a Cory and Gino show. Cory could 141 feet for the win, and Gino at 135 feet. Scott took it 104 feet for third, but probably walking twice as fast as everyone else. Was good to see that almost everyone could lift the 550 lbs. This is usually a pretty good event for me, and was happy with my results. Rules Conans Wheel 550lbs of plates
Hercules Hold (The Ice Fishing Contest) Review The Hercules hold was interesting. The apparatus was brand new, from pulse, and sadly they did not have time to complete the release system. Because of this, there were levers on each pillar that had to be released simultaneously by two different people. Of course, this caused a few problems. Winning time here was 69.40 seconds by Gino, and Nick got 2nd with 67.19 seconds. I found this event pretty easy, but did not crack 60 seconds. The hardest part was being ready for the initial tug, making sure it did not throw you off balance. Once past that…you just held it, and tried not to sway. I look forward to seeing more of this event. Rules Hercules Hold wieght to be determined
Squat (Dauphin Chrysler) Review Sadly for some (other then me) the car squat had to be cancelled because of equipment failure. The apparatus was put together wrong, which caused it to break after the first three or four guys went. There was talk of substituting and event, but in the end, the whole competition was just one even less. Rules Vehicle Squat for reps.
Lug A Link (Boze's Body Shop) Review The lug-a-link was the same as last year. Carrying the 375 lb link 80 feet, turning, going back, and hopefully repeating. No time limit. Scott was almost running with it, and made it 354 feet. 2nd went to Cory at 338 feet. Tim Sahar, a new light weight, got 4th with an impressive 303 feet. Everyone (except me) really improved from last year. I gripped the link wrong, and paid big time. I tried to reset it after 160 feet by squatting down, but could not get the link to stay on my lap. Very poor performance for myself, not even as good as last year. Rules LUG a LINK 375 lb link carry for distance.
Like a shield carry.
Log Press (Parkland Physio Therapy & Sports Injury Clinic) Review The log press for max began with a mandatory 200lb press. Immediately after pressing 200, the lifter would tell the ref what his next attempt would be. After everyone tried 200, they put 220 on, and the competitors that wanted 220 were called up. After a success they once again told the ref their next weight. So…no one really knew what the others guys were going to do ahead of time. Some strategies were evident here. Darren won this easily as we all knew he probably would. John Crocker (light weight) got third almost making 280 lbs. Really wanted him to make it even though I was out with my 3rd lift of 250lbs. The log was the same one as last year, with the 29 inch wide grip. Very wide. For me, this log always seems hard. I like the more normal 24 inch grip way better. At 240 I had to put the log onto my head, then finish. And did the same with 250. At 250 my feet were to far apart, and I struggled to get the right body position for a good lift. I am sure the log was over my head for 30 seconds. Or so it felt Jim Morach also impressed a lot of people with his pressing.. Rules Log Press for Max Weight
Increments are 200, 220, 240, 250, 260….+10
Three attempts. If you miss your done.
Medley (Dauphin Clinic Pharmacy) Review Last event was the medley. 700 lb tire 2 flips, 210, 250, 290 atlas stones to a 4 foot platform, 250 lb farmers walk 50 feet and finish with the 325 lb power stairs. The stairs were from Altona, and have the tall 16 inch steps. Lots of guys struggled with the tire. And most that got it struggled with the stones. Tacky was allowed, and all of us that got past the stones will agree, wow…did it make the farmers walk hard. They kept slipping out of your hands because the tacky. Only five guys got past the stones, and only four got onto the stairs. I was the only one that got to the stairs and could not finish. For me it seemed I was to short, as the link we carried would touch my crotch as I tried to lift it onto the step. Still, this was my favorite event of the competition. Sadly, it was also one of the worst, as Cory Sydor got hurt pretty bad in it. The tire slipped on him, breaking his ankle and severely injuring his knee. It’s the worst accident I have seen in this sport (in person) and really wish him the best. Rules 2x700lb Tire flip, 3 Atlas Stones (210, 250, 290) to 4’ platform, Farmer walk 250lbs x 50’, 300lb duck walk up power stairs
