Review Brent:
This was another fun competition. Its held just behined the beach in a parking lot. Really cool. My kids could play on the beach while the show ran! Big crowd, things went smooth, and everyone went really hard. I was lucky to win. Only won one event..but was consistent in all of them. Nick was doing really well..but got messed up in the log and then the crucifix hold. Jason also did well..but a back injury hampered some of his efforts. Was really impressed with Matthew. At 175 he did really good..loaded the 270lb stone first time he ever did stones. It sucks not being the smallest guy anymore. Prizes $1000, $500, $300.
Tire Flip Review The tire was probably less then 500. Hard to guess what it was. We did 6 flips one direction and then 6 back. Tire has pretty good grip. I was the first guy up..so was not sure what to..so..i gave it a good shot and cranked out 18. Going first was a bit of a disadvantage but not much. 18 flips had me breathing hard! Nick plowed through with 21. Jason edged me out with 19. Rules Tire flip for reps in 75 seconds.
Tire is 500+ lbs.
Seated Pull Review The surface was pretty good here. A little up and down..but not too much. A semi comes in so fast its hard to notice. Nick beat me by .05 of a second. Everyone finished so that was good. Good hand speed and the fewest misses of the rope is what it took here. (And I did miss grab a couple of times) Rules Semi Pull with 1.5" rope
80' Course.
90 Second time limit.
Log Press Review This did not go according to plan. I brought olympic plates along, and for some reason the 10lb plates would not fit in the log. We had to go 170 and 220 for reps. The guys could attempt the 220, and failing that, had 1 minute then they could do reps with the 170. Rob was the first guy to make a rep with 220 (BTW this log seems a bit harder at 220 then others..not sure if they weight was off, or if its just the length of the log) I knew Nick could out press me so I did an easy 5 reps. Low and behold, Nick dropped the log behind his head on his first rep with out locking out. Everyone was shocked. So shocked they all forgot he could still do the 170. After about 5 minutes he pointed this out and went on to take 3rd by cranking out a few easy reps. Rules Log Press for Reps in 60 seconds.
Competitor will choose either the 180lb log or 240lb log.
Only one clean, although you may put the log down as long as you allways keep on hand on it.
Car Deadlift Review We lifted a new truck on the pulse apparatus. Was pretty light to say the least. But we all lifted the same truck..so was ok! Nick won with 22 reps. Rob and myself tied with 17. Don did great with 14 reps. The pulse apparatus is pretty low so, repping out with it wears out the lower back after a bit. Rules Deadlift for reps in 60 seconds.
Using the Pulse apparatus and a car (TBD).
No Straps.
Crucifix Hold Review Not sure on the weight of these..but seemed like more then 22lbs. Matthew held on for 52 seconds to take it. Awesome job. I went 51 for 2nd. I was shaking after 10. Not sure what was wrong with me. Nick was going well..when he lost it at 33 seconds. Not in his happy place after that. Rules 22lbs per hand
Using large fish hooks with dead fish attached.
Atlas Stones Review Going into the last event, I pretty much had 1st over all locked up. I though Nick would get the 345, not sure if I would. Knew most would not get to the 290. Matthew amazed us all by getting the 1st three. Impressive. Nick went fast, but the excess tacky was making the stones slick. He missed the 345 this time though. I was last to go, shouldered the 210 for show, ran with it, nearly bust it through the top of the barrel. Then did the same with the 235. Fans were really chearing. Kmet was yelling at me to do the same with the 270, so I did…shouldering it and running about half way before it slipt. Oh well…carried it the rest of the way. 290 was good..i did not bother with the shoulder on that one. I paused at the 345…looked at the crowd..really wanted to get it..but could not. Oh well. Rules 210, 235, 270, 300, 350lbs each.
