Brent - Gimli is always a fun comp for me. Location is soo nice, by the beach, and my family loves the hotel, indoor and out door pool, cool pier..hot tub. Great pickerel to be eaten around town. Blair and Cheryl always entertain us after the show.
This year we had several 1st time competitors, and also some of the old timers coming back. Overall the comp was light and fast. Darren was the fastest I have ever seen him, and seemed like his strength was still there. Definitely challenged me. Chris competed for his first time and did really well. Chris is very explosive and has a lot of potential. Eric, at 19 has a bright future in this sport. He did not do as well in some of the events as I had thought, just a bad day I guess. Sami did his first comp as well, and tied with Eric, but we counted back and Sami ended up in 5th. Watch out for Sami next year! Michael did really well again, and took home the title of most senior competitor! Very close to Sami and Eric. Dave also was a first timer. Truck pull really hurt his points. With a bit of practice on it and a few tips he would be right in the top. Another guy to watch out for next year. The warrior, what can I say. Impressive in several of the events with two seconds. Injured before the stones so that held him back a bit. Always a crowd favourite. And Mel who got injured early on. Sad to hear he is done with strongman, but best of luck to him in power lifting.
Blair and his crew did a great job. Thanks to them and the sponsors.. CYA next year I hope!

Tire Flip
Review
Brent - Tire was a tallish 600ish one. Easy to flip. Course was 80 feet which was 9 flips for me. I did this one all wrong. I was trying to flip it like i would and 800lb tire, and that was way to slow. Should know better. I had guessed Chris was going to win this, and that he easily did. Darren was really fast on this one as well. Maybe had i not gone first my time would have been better, but not as good as theirs! Mel hurt his leg here, and was not himself for the rest of the comp.
Rules
500-700ish 80' fastest time Two at a time 90 Seconds
Log Press
Review
Brent - Log was said to be 180 + 50 in plates. But, would guess the log is around 160-165 by how it felt. I know Darren would be good here, so just did my best and got 7 reps. Darren managed to squeak in 8 reps for the win.
Rules
180lbs or 240lbs Clean and press each rep 60 Seconds
Harness Pull
Review
Brent - Before the comp started we tried the 50,000 lb tow truck. No one could move it more then an inch. We then moved it forward about 5 feet and that seemed to make a difference. Everyone that tried was able to get it going. We marked the spot and moved it back 100 feet or so. When we got to the event, no one could move it more then an inch again. After two guys failed, we deceided that 5' or more would count, and everyone not getting 5' would pull a semi. No one got 5'! So....we did it all over again with the semi. I had Eric for the win, but he was having an off day and was 4th. I had about 3/4 of a second over Rob, and Darren by around a second. Was very fast.
Rules
Dr Hooks Semi tow truck 80' 90 Seconds
Deadlift for Reps
Review
Brent - We used a wooden apparatus with 4 viking girls on it. Bar was in front like a normal deadlift, but i find an apparatus like these feels wierd in that your sorta pulling forward. I had the advantage of going last in this one. Darren was the favorite, and he delivered. 24 reps. Kmet pulled Sumo, and it worked well for him with 21. Sami did well with 13 reps. I really wanted to get 1st or 2nd here, but once I started pulling i knew it would not happen. So, just went a bit over Sami to take 3rd.
Rules
60 Seconds for reps using apparatus with bar in front. Still testing to determine how event will run. Straps allowed, no suits
Atlas Stones
Review
Brent - Was suprised to see the stones where in staggared distances away from the platforms, 10, 15, 10, 5 and 0'. Arggh. I was 2 points down on Darren, and needed to make it up here. Before me 3 stones was the best, chris putting them up in 44 seconds. No one else got three stones before i went up. So...thing were a little scary. To top it off, the time somehow got mixed up to being 60 seconds instead of 90. 90 would have been nice here. Stones were mostly new and very slippery with dust. I went up, got the 1st three in enough time to have 1st at that point. 4 went nice, i think it was approx 290. But whistle blew before i could get the last one. I tried anyway after the whistle, but it was just too slipper (or i was to weak). Darren knew what he had to do now. he needed two stones in 20 seconds, or just to load three for the win. But to everyones suprise he struggled with the 1st one. he did finally manage to get it, and shouldered it to the crowds cheers, but he was done. He had strained his biceps earlier and that was it.
Rules
