Brent -Glad everyone made it out. Thanks to Ryan for reffing, and the helpers for all the help. This show was hard on me. I moved all the stuff to the site alone, and had to do it Thursday/Friday as it could not sit there long, like it could in the Arena. Some added stress with having Eric try to get the wheel barrow done but glad we did. It worked well, and with some refinement its going to work better in 09.
I was really hoping for 5th overall, and i got it. Not happy with some of what i did, but its not often one is!
Al - It feels good to win a contest again. The last time I won a show was Westerns 2005.
I enjoyed the Altona contest. A few glitches but otherwise a good show. We were treated well and hopefully I can be back next year.
Ryan Espey did a very fair and consistent job of reffing with some tough events to officiate. The workers and scorekeepers also did a good job on a very hot day.

Yoke
Review
Brent - I have been training this, so knew what i could do. Was hoping to get 1020 for 20' as i thought i could move 1120 for a few, but was not to be. I was close. Tyler got a PR in this, was impressed that he finished the 1020. Erics been training for a few months and took 820 for 20' for a PR. Nice.
Al - I was very happy with my performance. I went 11 feet with 1020, This is a PR for me. Tyler and Michael Caruso went the distance with 1020. A good start.

Rules
Progressive Yoke Competitors will be measure before hand for height. Starting order will be based on that. Starting weight is 620lbs. Competitor has 30 seconds to walk 20'. Unlimited drops. Once you reach 20', 100lbs will be added. You have 30 seconds from when those plates are on, to get the next 20' done. Winner is who ever goes the furthest. In order to count on a weight, you must move it at least 3 feet. Yoke needs to cross the line to count 20' and to move up in weight. No sliding. Excessive sliding will require you to walk yoke that much further past the line, and thus will increase distance for next yoke weight.
Seated Pull
Review
Brent - we were going to pull a semi, but that sorta fell apart last minute, so i got a 3 ton truck from work. We could only have it in the morning, and my rope was still on the way out from Winnipeg. So several of us just tried pushing it on the surface. It seemed to move ok. MISTAKE. It was too heavy. No one finished it. I actually was hoping for a pull that would be pretty quick. But this was not. It must have been uphill all the way. All in all..i was happy with it, just not what i had planned on. Scott, AL and Jeff were all within two feet of each other. Awesome pulls. I was one inch behind Nathan. ARGGH.
Al - Very tough. Slight Incline. No one got a full pull. Like pulling from a dead stop every pull. Scott won at 59 feet I was 2nd at 58.

Rules
80' with semi. Competitor may stand for the start. No Tacky.
Viking Press
Review
Brent - I had been making 280 in practice for a single in training, except for the last time i tried. And..at the comp, i was no where close. I have no idea what was up with that. So i had to go with 180. There too, i got 9, and they felt way harder then they should have. Sami and Dave both had 7 reps, and i need to beat them. Sami presses like a body builder...sure he would do more more if he was not so slow taking it down. Scott and Michael did really well. Great pressing.
Al - Tyler did 6 for an early lead. Michael did 8. Jeff did 2 right before me. I came out and battled to get 3. I may have had 1-2 left but not 3 to catch Tyler so I decided to conserve energy. Scott came out and did 9 to win. This is one event that I get better at if I practice a few weeks and I had not practiced this at all. Maybe I could get 6-7 with some practice.

Rules
For reps, 280 or 180 lbs. Everyone who thinks they can do 280 goes first. Anyone not making a rep, will then go immediately with 180. 1 Rep with 280 beats anything with 180. No elbow sleeves. No double knee bend.
Wheel Barrow
Review
Brent - Well..this was our masterpiece. I really liked the way it felt. The pick was very high, but it got so heavy so fast. I loved it. We will change it so that it take 60-80' to hit the top instead of 35, also will make the hook stronger so that it does not break. Be ready for this next year! I am not sure what happened to me here, i usually have good grip, i know i was very sore from the seated pull. Danno impressed me here. And of course Jeff and Eric. Maybe Eric was training with it in secret...haha.. Sami also did well here, he will be cut off from training for that.
Al - Very cool. Gets increasingly heavier as you go along like a tractor pull. Some guys had complaints about the event but I thought it was GREAT. Very light at start but got heavy quick. I made the 1st run and was dissapointed in my 2nd run. I think I got ahead of myself and lost it. 4th. This would be excellent to practice with gets you holding some really heavy weight in the hands.

Rules
Progressive Wheel Barrow Like a tractor pull sled. As you walk, the weight will get closer to your hands, and thus get heavier. Competitors going the full distance (80' or so) will go again with more weight. No Tacky or straps allowed.
Atlas Stones
Review
Brent - in practice i was getting 4 in low 20 seconds. But the were so slick today. I got stuck on the 290 for 20 seconds i am sure. Was happy i at least got the 305 after that. Had nothing left for the 345, but did not think i could get it anyway. Al was great here, taking the win and the overall with his great performance. And to think some guys wanted the 420 lb stone!!!
Al - Jeff and I were tied for 1st going into this event with Scott 1 point behind and Michael 1.5 behind. Stones were greasy and a lot of guys had trouble, Michael loaded 5 quickly but then had some bicep issues and could not load the 6th. Scott flew through the first 5 but could not get 6. I was pretty confident about getting all 6 and wanted to be fairly fast because I needed to beat Jeff. I one motioned the first 4, And took a little more time with the last 2 but loaded them and had a very good time of 31 secs. Jeff had some troubles and loaded 5, nearly loading 6.

Rules
235, 270, 290, 305, 345, 365 lbs. Platform height is 48 inches Tacky allowed Time will be recorded for each stone placed. Your time for the heaviest stone you do is what counts.
