Review
Last competition of the MASA season saw us heading to Portage. Ryan E had first place in overall points wrapped up, but 2nd spot was going to be a battle between myself (Brent) and Jamin. Things went my way and ended up with 2nd overall for the season. The competition was great, heavy, and it was 37 degrees out. Luckily we were in shade..but it was still hot. Way Hot. The Portage scenery at our location was top notch, if not distracting at times. The whole show took just under two hours to run, so it went very fast, yet it seemed ok. MASA gave out the year end points trophies during a brief intermission, Ryan E took home the Manitoba’s Strongest Man Trophy, and I took home the trophy for light weight class. Ryan E. really did well at this competition, taking his first overall win of the season.

Farmers Walk
Review
300 Lb farmers walk. I think the course was 80 feet long, but no one really got close to the turn. Mostly because the handles were thick, and smooth. hard to hang onto in the heat. Several of the competitors banged their legs onto the plates causing them to drop shorter then they might have otherwise gone. Ryan E. took the win in this event.
Rules
The competitor carries two 300lb objects as far as they possibly can. Distance will determine the winner of this event. No time limit.
Super Yoke
Review
The dreaded 700 lb yoke. Surprisingly every one finished this event, but the distance was relatively short, at 50 feet. Multiple drops were allowed, and used by most. Ryan S. ripped up the course in under 10 seconds. The times with asterisks (*) indicate a 3 second penalty for dragging.
Rules
The competitors will carry a 700lb yoke 50 feet from a starting line until the entire implement has crossed the finish line. 1 put down allowed, 3 second penalty for dragging (judges discretion).
Log Press
Review
Have you ever heard me say I hate the log press? Actually, it’s a disease us guys from Altona seem to have. Next year..next year… We used Ryan E’s log, which is very well made, thick handles wit knurling. Ryan S. easily did the 290, and with ir raised did a full 360 degree turn to show everyone his strength. Brad did well, using his head to finish the 260.
Rules
The log will be lifted overhead. An opening weight of 200lbs will be used for the opening lift. The weight will then go up in 30lb increments. Each competitor must attempt each weight, the competitor has 60 seconds to complete the lift, and once the competitor fails to make a lift he will be eliminated from the event.
Carry & Drag
Review
We carried the 400lb duck walk for 50 feet, the placed it on the sled and dragged it back. This was the same sled and duck walk we used at the Ex, but it seemed to drag way easier on the pavement (or I got better at it). Ryan E. took this event followed closely by Jamin and Ryan S.
Rules
The competitor will carry an object over a set course, drop the object, and drag a chain back to where he started. Both objects must be completely across the designated lines to record a time. This will be a race against the clock; however if a competitor fails to finish the course the distance measured will determine the placing.
Loading Race
Review
The last event of the day was the loading event, where we loaded 5 items (200lb keg, 275lb keg, 235lb atlas, 270lb atlas, 275 field stone) onto pallets about 4-5 feet high. This was probably my best event of the day. Though I took my time I did manage to get all five. The last stone was actually easier then the Atlas stones as you could grab it easier. But Ryan E. ripped through this one in 30 seconds.
Rules
Objects will be loaded in order from lightest to heaviest on to the designated platforms. Time and/or number of objects completed will determine scoring. Objects include 2 Atlas Stones, 2 fieldstones, 2 beer kegs… possibly more TBA.
